Southport travelled to Yeronga on Saturday to take on the Demons at Leyshon Park in Round 9 of the QAFLW.

In the Seniors, the Sharks defeated Yeronga by 80 points.

The 12.14 (86) to 1.0 (6) win means that the Sharks remain undefeated after eight games.

After the game, Southport Coach Peter Doherty said, “ After a successful start to the season there is always a risk of complacency. Our girls showed no signs of that which was terrific. Their preparation was spot on, and they executed our game plan really well.”

“We started well, and we kept the foot on the pedal for the remainder of the game, which was really pleasing.”

“We have just got to keep accumulating wins, as we look to secure a top 2 position on the ladder at the end of the season, and on the weekend, we were able to do that.”

Maddy Gault, who came up from the Reserves a couple of weeks ago, played extremely well on the wing.

Fellow winger, and acting Captain Rianna Schipp was also very good.

Midfielders Steph O’Brien, Maddy Watt and Carly Remmos were at their usual best.

Jess Maher was solid down back, and Maggie O’Connell kicked three goals to remain on top of the QAFLW Goalkicking Leaderboard.
