BrainEye Members Trial

At Southport Sharks, the wellbeing of our patrons and the community at large is of utmost priority, which is why we are always looking to partner with organisations that are pushing the health, science & technology industries forward, such as BrainEye.

BrainEye are building a smartphone technology, that will allow for early detection of brain abnormalities, such as neurodegenerative diseases – including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and MS. They currently have groundbreaking trials underway at The Alfred Hospital and Gold Coast University Hospital.

From Monday 29 April to Friday 3 May, between 12:30pm to 4:30pm each day, the BrainEye team (supported by Griffith University) will be at the club, to conduct testing inside Wobbygong’s with any members aged in the 50 to 80 age bracket.

For your involvement, participants will be thanked with drink voucher that can be redeemed in Lounge Bar.

Participation is easy, as the test only takes 1-2 minutes, and simply requires you to look at a smartphone screen and camera. You will be guided through the entire process, by the friendly teams from BrainEye and Griffith University.

We had the privilege of working with BrainEye last year in a trial conducted with our VFL & QAFLW teams, where we helped contribute to research conducted on detecting early signs of concussion. This received national media coverage at the time, and BrainEye were also recently awarded the Gold Coast Sports Technology/Innovation of the Year award.
