At the 2023 Southport Sharks presentation evening on Friday night, Football Media Coordinator Cameron Smith was awarded the Bill Wood Club Person of the Year award in honour of his ongoing dedication and contribution to the football department and wider Sharks community.

Bill Wood, the founding President of the club in 1961, played a pivotal role in shaping the Southport Football Club’s early days. Bill’s influence extended beyond his presidency, umpiring the inaugural game between Southport and Centrals (now Palm Beach Currumbin) and continuing to champion the club’s progress, growth and success well into his retirement.

Since 1983, the Bill Wood Club Person of the Year award has been presented to a volunteer, player or staff member each year who has gone above and beyond in support of the Sharks football department.

Cam started working in the football department at Southport Sharks as a volunteer in 2020, commencing his full-time position as Football Media Coordinator in 2021. Throughout the football season, Cam consistently goes the extra mile, working endlessly across various disciplines to support the club. He works closely with all three senior teams and the support staff, accompanying the VFL team when they travel for games. Whether he is working diligently to write a media release, coding game footage live, filling in as a game-day photographer, packing the bus or assisting with Gatorade duties, his profound passion for football and the Southport Sharks shines through in every task he undertakes.

From the board, management, and the entire Sharks team, we extend our warmest congratulations to Cameron Smith. This award is a well-deserved acknowledgment of your unwavering dedication to the club!
