The Southport Sharks have signed key forward Lachie Rhook from Centrals Trinity Beach Bulldogs in Cairns.

The former Bulldog kicked 75 goals last year in the AFL Cairns Senior Men’s competition and has moved down to the Gold Coast to play VFL football.

Rhook trained with the Sharks pre-Christmas as a train-on player but is now an official Southport player.

He said, “I’m stoked to be playing here. It is a great club, and I am very excited.”

“It is a bit different to country football, but I am enjoying the professionalism.”

Originally from Warrnambool in country Victoria, Rhook has played the last three seasons in Cairns.

In 2020 and 2021, he played for the South Cairns Cutters before moving to the Centrals Trinity Beach Bulldogs in 2022.

Last year when playing against his old club in the final home and away game of the season, he kicked a staggering 18 goals.

Southport’s Football General Manager Jarrod Field said, “We already had our eye on Lachie, but when he kicked that bag of 18 goals in a game, it made it clear we had to get him down here.”

“He impressed in the pre-Christmas training sessions, and we are excited to have him on our list now.”
