Coast Clash XVII will decide on one of the 2022 VFL grand finalists.
The winner will take on Casey Demons (the affiliate club of the Melbourne Demons) or the Brisbane Lions.
The Sharks, who finished third on the ladder, won the right to host the preliminary final after defeating the Brisbane Lions by 49 points in the second qualifying final.
Gold Coast finished fifth on the ladder and are in terrific form, winning their last eight games.
They defeated Box Hill in the first elimination final by 23 points and then the Sydney Swans by 12 points in the semi finals to book their spot in the preliminary final.
The Sharks and the Suns have played a previous 16 times in both the NEAFL and VFL, and the record stands at Gold Coast 13 – Southport 3.
The last time they met was in Round 21 at Metricon Stadium. It was a see-sawing affair where the Gold Coast Suns held on in a thriller.
“They were too good for us last time,” Southport Coach Steve Daniel said.
“We are not dwelling on it but there are some things we need to rectify. Most of all we are just excited by the challenge ahead.”
“It is going to be a tough assignment but one we look forward to.”
Daniel said it would be great to see a big crowd turn up.
He said, “It is going to be a great day for Queensland footy, and I am looking forward to seeing the boys play in front of a packed house at Fankhauser Reserve.
