SSH+F Top Tips for 2019

It’s that time of the year when many people make New Year’s health resolutions. Often, these resolutions can be impractical and unrealistic. At Southport Sharks Health + Fitness we believe in making lifestyle changes that you can keep and continue to benefit from. Here are our five top tips to start the new year on a healthy note, and to keep it that way!

  1. Always eat breakfast.
    Breaking your fast each morning kickstarts your metabolism, which helps you burn more during the day. If you’re a serial breakfast skipper, try setting your alarm 15 minutes earlier to allow time and prepare your breakfast the night before if possible.
  2. Aim to reach 10,000 steps a day.
    It seems like a huge number, we know. But trust us, it’s not difficult! Easy ways to increase your steps are to park further away from your destination (perhaps at the shops or at work), take the stairs instead of the lift (hello booty workout!) or walk the dog.
  3. Have water on hand to drink consistently throughout the day.
    Having a drink bottle makes maintaining consistent water intake much easier. Keep one at your desk or work station, bring it to your lunch break, and if you’re exercising make sure you are hydrated beforehand so you can get the most out of your workout!
  4. Allow yourself to indulge on special occasions.
    Moderation within consistency is vital to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. This may mean the occasional pizza night, glass of wine or chocolate bar. The key is to think long-term.
  5. If motivation is a struggle, train with a friend.
    Training with a friend brings out a higher level of accountability and can unleash a healthy amount of competitiveness! Set a plan with regular times to meet and ensure you both know each others specific goals.
