The Southport Sharks are pleased to announce that David Ashkar is the new Assistant Manager – Football Operations.
David Ashkar is a Hall of Fame Member at the Sharks and brings over 30 years of coaching and football administration experience.
He said, “It is great to be home. I am extremely excited and grateful for the opportunity.”
The newly formed role has been brought in to help with the demand of running a VFL and QAFLW program.
“There is already a fantastic program and quality people at Sharks. My job is to make sure they are well supported.”
Southport GM of Football Jarrod Field said he is excited to work with David.
He said, “We have worked together at two previous clubs and he is a fantastic football person. He knows how to get the best out of people and knows the game inside out.”
Ashkar‘s coaching journey started at Sharks, where he was an Assistant Coach of the Under 19s team.
Since then, he has coached senior football at Labrador in the QAFL and Under 16 and Under 18s Queensland teams.
Most recently he has been the Director of AFL – Coaching and Recruitment at Bond University and help set up the women’s QAFLW program at Bond University.
Ashkar is passionate about helping to grow football on the Gold Coast.
He revealed, “I just love the game. If you have a passion for something, you put the hours in to do a good job, and everything else takes care of itself.”
David Ashkar will be begin the new role in October.
