Southport’s Darcie Davies has been selected to take part in the 2023 AFLW Academy program.
Southport’s General Manager of Football Jarrod Field said it is a tremendous achievement by Darcie and it is a reward for her hard work.
“At 17 years of age, Darcie has an exciting future ahead of her. She showed us last year in the QAFLW that she is very talented. Her five goals in her QAFLW debut against Yeronga was a great example of this.”
Darcie’s older sisters Giselle (Gold Coast Suns) and Fleur Davies (GWS Giants) are already on AFL lists.
Field said, “The female pathway at Southport, from NAB AFL Auskick to QAFLW, is as good as any club in the country. Our draft numbers in 2022 clearly demonstrate this.
“Hopefully, Darcie can graduate from Southport to AFLW next year.”
The 2023 NAB AFLW Academy squad features 30 players and includes a selection of the most talented 17-year-old footballers across the country.
The players selected will be eligible for the 2023 NAB AFLW Draft, following the 2023 NAB AFLW season.
Players will participate in high-performance and personal development programs throughout the 2023 season. Program content will be delivered through a mixture of face-to-face and online modules.
The 2023 NAB AFLW Academy will commence with a camp in January, which will be followed by camps in April and June, and a match.
The squad will be coached by Tarkyn Lockyer, the former Collingwood AFL player.
