Congratulations to Duty Manager Trent Maloney who won the 2019 Golden Shark Award!
The annual Golden Shark Award recognises a team member who is dedicated to their role, is a team player and provides positive experiences to guests. Trent was a standout winner for the employee of the year award and received a travel voucher presented by CEO Dean Bowtell and COO Chris Jones.
Senior Duty Manager, Gary McDonald, nominated Trent for his strong leadership skills and high level of knowledge across the business.
“Trent is dedicated and committed to his work, whether dealing with our members, guests or colleagues. He is fair and transparent about issues and works towards resolving them. Trent aims to ensure everyone in our business has a positive experience” said Gary.
Trent joined Sharks in February 2008 and has taken on various roles and study since. We spoke with Trent about his journey at Southport Sharks.
What does it mean to win the Golden Shark Award?
I am grateful to Sharks for all the support and encouragement I have received over the years, and I am proud to represent the club as a Duty Manager.
How have you progressed into your current Duty Manager role at Sharks?
From starting as a Bar Attendant, I became a Bar Team Leader – overseeing the Lounge Bar, Mackenzie’s, TAB and Keno. I continued my growth, moving to the gaming department.
Following a promotion to Duty Manager, I realised the opportunities for me in this industry. My passion for people and my leadership ability led me to undertake both a Diploma of Management and a Bachelor of Business majoring in gaming, graduating in 2016.
What do you enjoy about working at Sharks?
I have always loved being part of a sporting club that gives back and supports the community. I also enjoy the diversity of the property, interacting with our members and guests, and helping to instil a positive culture within our team.
What will you do with your travel voucher?
We recently booked our dream trip to Hawaii, so feeling very exciting and grateful. Aloha!
Congratulations Trent!
