Southport Sharks Celebrates International Women’s Day

Southport Sharks is marking International Women’s Day by celebrating the women who contribute to the organisation every day.

Southport Sharks is marking International Women’s Day by celebrating the women who contribute to the organisation every day, while reaffirming its commitment to creating opportunities for women across sport, hospitality and business.

This year’s theme, Give to Gain, reflects the club’s belief that when organisations invest in people through support, mentorship and opportunity.

It aligns closely with Southport Sharks’ ambition to be recognised as the Gold Coast’s best employer, where people feel valued, supported and empowered to grow their careers.

General Manager of People and Culture Karen Niehoff said the club’s approach to International Women’s Day builds on the strong foundations already in place across the organisation.

“We already do a lot for our women, from our football programs to the number of women in leadership roles across the organisation. International Women’s Day is about recognising that and continuing to create opportunities for growth.”

Niehoff said creating an inclusive environment where people feel supported to step forward is central to the club’s culture.

“It doesn’t matter who you are or what role you play — it’s about creating a culture where people feel valued and confident to pursue opportunities. When we invest in our people and create an environment where everyone can thrive, we all gain.”

Across the organisation, women are leading teams in areas including football, events, hospitality and administration, reflecting Southport Sharks’ commitment to representation and leadership pathways.

As part of this year’s International Women’s Day initiatives, Southport Sharks will highlight the stories of women across the club through a series of interviews and features, celebrating their leadership, career journeys and contributions to the organisation.

The club will also continue to strengthen its internal mentoring culture encouraging team members to share knowledge, support one another and create opportunities for future leaders.

Niehoff said the Give to Gain philosophy reinforces the club’s focus on investing in its people and community.

“Give to Gain is about giving back to our team internally, to their development and to the wider community we’re part of.”

Through initiatives like these, Southport Sharks continues to build a workplace where people feel supported to grow, lead and succeed.
