Men’s Health Week aims to spread awareness for men’s health – both physical and mental. Unfortunately, there is a huge gap in the discussion of Men’s mental Health and the many ways a regular exercise routine can assist. We spoke to one of our Group Fitness Instructors, Ben Herring, to talk about how a healthy lifestyle has helped him maintain positive mental health.
“Strength training has helped me through a lot of tough times and made me a stronger person not only physically, but mentally as well. If you need a hand, there is no need to struggle on your own.” – Ben Herring
Ben says health isn’t just about how well your body is working, it’s about the mind as well. Exercise is one of the most powerful antidepressants available. He finds lifting weights, stretching and running are just some of many natural ways he has, and you can, improve your physical and mental health. There will always be obstacles in life, it’s how we chose to deal with them that matters.
The gym can be a great place to think, gather your thoughts and make friends. Ben understands it can be a very daunting place if you’re alone, but you’re not. There is always someone around, whether it is a Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor, a staff member on reception. or a fellow gym member, just ask for some help if you need it.
