City of Gold Coast’s Love to Ride Challenge

In 2016, for the second consecutive year, Southport Sharks signed up to be part of the City of Gold Coast’s Love to Ride Challenge. This is a fun, free competition to encourage Gold Coasters to experience firsthand the joy and benefits of riding a bike. Running through the month of November, this event challenges workplaces and individuals to get on their bikes. Employees at Southport Sharks decided that competing with other organisations on the Gold Coast wasn’t enough, they wanted to ‘Beat the Boss’ by logging more kilometres than CEO, Dean Bowtell, who is an avid cyclist – cycling hundreds of kilometres per month for enjoyment and fitness.

“Love to Ride is a good opportunity to promote the health and fitness benefits of cycling and a little healthy competition into the workplace. Here at Southport Sharks, we support our employees where possible to choose cycling or walking to work by providing secure bike parking, showers and change rooms. Encouraging employees to get back on their bikes for fun opens them up to start thinking of cycling to work, as a much cheaper and healthier alternative to driving a car.” – Dean Bowtell, Southport Sharks CEO.
