HORNETS STING FINALS HOPES
Only a rare win at Graham Road against Aspley would be enough to keep our season alive.
We started in great fashion with Jack O’Shea goaling inside the first minute and held a 5 point quarter time lead.
The second quarter saw another Todd Grayson hamstring injury and we lost the lead at exactly the same time, going in 7 points down at the half.
Hamish Shepheard was providing a great target up forward and scores were level at the 22min mark of the third, but we then allowed 2 goals in ‘red time’ and went to the final break 11 points in arrears.
This shift in momentum was obviously too much for our boys as we were blown away in the last quarter with Aspley kicking 5 goals 6 to our meagre 2 points.
This result probably sums up our year in that we were well in the game, but could not sustain the effort for long enough. Co-Captain SebTape led from the front and Fraser Thurlow dominated the hit-outs. Moffa and Crowley stood tall in defence but in the end, 3 good quarters are not enough.
We host Canberra in our final game this coming Saturday. A loss will result in 9thplace finish, the worst in club history. I hope the playing group are keen to avoid this!
