Round 16 - Match Report
Round 16 Match Report
We headed to Canberra with our season on the line but were outmuscled by a more desperate Canberra outfit.
We got jumped early and conceded 8 shots to 1 in the first quarter and this set the tone for the afternoon. Canberra put us under enormous pressure and although we steadied during the second term through goals to Clements (2) and a team lifter from Hancock on half time, we just never looked like taking control of the game.
In a low scoring affair, both sides’ added 4 goals after half time and Canberra were able to hang on for a well deserved 16 point win.
Ryan Pantic produced his best performance of the season and Moffa, Tape and Rogers all battled hard.
A bitterly disappointed Nathan Bock addressed the players after the game and emphasised the fact that 36 tackles (Canberra 48) was not acceptable after being a key focus for the week. Coupled with the fact we went -28 in contested possessions, it is no surprise we ended up on the wrong side of the ledger.
We now face a very tough task to play finals in 2017 as we face the SUNS next week at Fankhauser Reserve. The harsh reality is that those who take the field over the next few weeks will be playing for their future at the club. Let’s see who stands up….
