Despite kicking our 3rd highest score of the season, we were outplayed by a determined Redland side on Saturday. Redland lead at every change and we never really gave ourselves a chance of winning.
After being jumped early, we hit the front midway through the first quarter but conceded 5 shots at goal, including 2 goals during “red time” which cost us the lead.
Kicking with a distinct wind advantage during the second quarter, we opened the quarter with 4 consecutive behinds and then only added 3 goals for the quarter.
The third quarter saw Redland bang on 7 goals to 4, and with Holland, then McKenzie followed by West, all injured and unable to return, we were unable to mount a serious challenge in the second half.
This result leaves us 3 games shy of Aspley in 6th position with no margin for error. We have GWS at home next week followed by Canberra away.
Mitch Johnson was fantastic on Saturday kicking 6 majors and the midfield brigade of Thurlow, Keras, Boston and Tape battled hard but we just didn’t have enough contributors across the ground. Hopefully, Todd Grayson can get up next week and help the boys stay alive with a win over GWS next Saturday at Fankhauser Reserve.
